The Durbar Square is the generic name for the Malla and Shah palace which can be found in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.

These squares are now recognized by UNESCO managed jointly by the Archeological Department of Nepal. Durbar Squares are the best places to visit in Kathmandu valley for sight seeing.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Kathmandu Durbar Square held the palaces of the Shah and Malla kings who rule over the country. Hanumandhoka Durbar Square and Basantapur Durbar Square are the main attraction for the local and tourist. Culturally rich histories and royal achievement are the mail attraction of the museum.

Hanumandhoka Museum

Hanumandhoka Durbar Square is derived from the statue of Hanuman at the entrance of the palace. Hanumandhoka has now the museum with the royal antique equipment’s, vintage cars, mirror house and lot more antique histories of our royal achievements.

Basantapur

Basantapur Durbar is originally the Royal Palace at Dattaraya Square which is surrounded by spectacular architecture. It is the showcases of the Newar artistic skills over centuries. Basantapur Durbar square has now become the best tourism and local area to spend a day with the local food varieties and site visiting.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square

Bhaktapur Durbar Square is also a royal palace of Malla kings of Nepal. Bhaktapur Durbar Square is considered one of the biggest and the grandest among all three Durbar Squares. With the richest Newari culture in Bhaktapur one can find all the culturally rich environment around the places.

The great architecture, food and the culture are the things that will leave you mesmerized. The view are as good as the temples around there. Vatsala Temple is the Shikhara style called Granthakuta temple completely constructed in sandstone and has similarities to the Krishna Mandir of Patan.

Nyatapola Temple is the highest and the biggest pagoda of Nepal ever built with culturally rich, artistic beauty and architectural perfection. Nyatapola is a Newari language which means five stories with the symbolic o five basic elements.

Siddhi Lakshmi Temple has the statue of the various creatures like camel, horses, rhino and some mythical creatures to guard the entrance of the temple. Bhairava nath Temple is also located in the Bhaktapur Durbar Square area. Bhairava is the mist fierce menifestation of Lord Shiva.

Patan Durbar Square

Patan is one of the oldest Buddhist cities. It is a center of both Hinduism and Buddhism with 55 temples around the area. Most of these structures are in the vicinity of the Durbar Square.

Patan Durbar Square has around 136 courtyard area with old Newari residential houses around. It is one of the attraction for the tourist and locals. It was the royal palace of Malla kings of Lalitpur areas. Many statues and temples are found in here.

Krishna Temple is the most worshipped temple in Patan Durbar Square. Krishna Temple is the Shikhara style called Granthakuta temple completely constructed in sandstone and has similarities to the Vatsala Temple of Bhaktapur.

Taleju temple was 1st built by King Siddhi Narsingh Malla in 1640 and it was rebuilt after the fire by Srinivasa Malla in 1667. Taleju temple is a five-story temple with triple roofs.

Bhimsen Temple which is also known for its three interconnected golden windows was also build by Srinivasa Malla in 1680.

Durbar Squares around the valley are the attraction of the people which gives knowledge about our ancients, culture and ethnicity. Each squares have their own identity and uniqueness with their own individual cultural importance.

The squares are recognized by UNESCO managed jointly by the Archeological Department of Nepal which makes tourist attracted to explore and know about variation of cultures of this place.
